In the 1900's, Man's position in society as sole power wielder had yet to be challenged. The ads shown above are vintage, most dating to the early twentieth century. I think that its pretty clear what their thoughts were on women : submissive, weak, beneath men. And how exactly did women behave during this period of time? Well pretty much as depicted. They were dainty in dress and action, obedient to their husbands, and based on old reruns of comedic sitcoms, the ideal woman was that who would be a perfect house wife, preparing the children for their future stations in life all while seeing to their husbands needs.
